Free Book Reviews

Are you looking to reach your target audience? If so, I have three children ready to read your book. Hello, my name is Jaclyn. I am a writer, blogger, illustrator, and mommy of three. The books I review are for ages 0-14 and PG. Any genre is fine. I regularly review on Amazon, but I am starting a section on my blog for reviews. If we don’t like a book, we will not review it; however, if we do chose your book, I will tweet and share it on my SM sites. Feel free to message me at theretiredtoothfairy@outlook.com. Follow me on Twitter, Facebook, and G+. And of course, don’t forget about my blog. Hope to talk to you soon!

::::Update::::

I am now a volunteer reviewer for The Midwest Review. Reviews I post on my site will also be submitted to the Reader's Bookwatch--a monthly newsletter by The Midwest Review. It is a great opportunity for extra exposure.

In addition, my first book has been published. If you are willing to exchange reviews--I would appreciate if you can return the kindness- please let me know when inquiring about a book review.

Another thing to keep in mind, since my children help review the books, there is a timeframe to consider.

Early Readers can take 4-6  weeks depending on amount of requests.
Middle Grade Chapter Books will take longer 6-12 weeks depending on size and amount of requests.

Preference will be given to audiobooks since they are easier to review.

In order to make it as a submission for the Reviewer's Bookwatch, these need to be included in your email:

From The Midwest Review site---
  • Title
  • Author
  • Publisher
  • Publisher's address
  • 13-digit ISBN number (a 10-digit ISBN is accepted if necessary)
  • List Price (a.k.a. "cover price"), in U.S. Dollars if possible. Please do not give a book's discounted price on Amazon or anywhere else, because "sale" prices are subject to frequent change, unlike the cover price.

  • Thank you! I look forward to helping you!

    1. I have a mid grade book, George Knows, about an egocentric basset hound familiar. He loves to be reviewed, particularly since he's coming out in paperback the end of the month, and has been in eBook since Dec. Let me know! Mud. mudepoz@gmail.com

    2. Dear Jaclyn Bartz,

I read about your request for books to review for your blog via the Children's Book Illustrators & Authors group on Linked-In. If you are interested, I would like to send you my award-winning book for children about bullying, How the Moon Regained Her Shape. Arbordale Publishing originally published the hardcover edition in 2006, followed by the first paperback edition in 2007; the e-book, audio, and Spanish e-book in 2008; and the third paperback edition and iPad app in 2012. I hope that you will review my book.

How the Moon Regained Her Shape is a legend influenced by Native American folktales that explains why the moon changes shape and helps children deal with bullies. The sun insults the moon, and the moon feels so badly hurt that she shrinks and leaves the sky. The moon turns to her comet friend and her many friends on earth to comfort her. Her friends include rabbits and Native American men and women. Then she regains her full shape, happiness, and self-esteem, and she returns to her orbit. An educational appendix gives advice about bullying, scientific information about the moon, information about Native American culture, and ideas for related activities for children.

I was bullied when I was in elementary school, and I wrote How the Moon Regained Her Shape to help other children so that they would not have to suffer for years, as I did. I have done research on the topic of bullying, and I have spoken about bullying and read my book at many schools, libraries, bookstores, and conferences. I also give creative writing workshops for children and for adults.

Illustrator Ben Hodson won a Benjamin Franklin Award for this book’s artwork in 2007. How the Moon Regained Her Shape also won a Book Sense Pick (2006), a Children’s Choices award (2007), and a Gold Medal in the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards (2007). The book was also a finalist for the Oregon Reading Association’s 2009 Patricia Gallagher Picture Book Award.

I have a Ph.D. in English from the University of Chicago. I have published poetry, fiction, literary criticism, and essays. Anaphora Literary Press published my poetry book Folk Concert: Changing Times (2012). Finishing Line Press published my poetry book Traffic Stop (2011). My scholarly book, Coleridge, Lamb, Hazlitt, and the Reader of Drama, was published by the University of Missouri Press (1990). I am President of the Michigan College English Association.

I can send you a link to the e-book, or I can send you a hard copy if you give me a good address for you. Just let me know which you prefer.

      Best wishes!

      Sincerely,
      Janet Heller, Ph.D.
